Once you've written your rough draft you need to see what ratio of quotes to your voice that you have.  Your essay should have 20% of other people's voice, if there is more than that the essay becomes their voice and none of your voice is heard.  To make this visual take two different colored highlighters and use one to mark quotes and one to mark your voice.
Which of the colors dominate in your essay? In the one I have written about clothing personalities, I found that I have a good balance of colors.  I quote something and then respond but I also have a good amount of my own voice.  The sources that I choose are a great addition to the conversation and is very appropriate and supportive of my response.
What else do you notice about the color pattern of your essay? Are you setting up the quotes in your essay and then responding to them? In my essay I had an even pattern to be able to support what I say and what the quotes say.  In your essay look and see what color is dominating the wrestling match of your conversation.
